PM Modi to inaugurate Lotus-inspired Navi Mumbai Airport with 20 Million Passenger Capacity Today (X/TIN)
PM Modi Navi Mumbai Airport Inauguration: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate the much-awaited Navi Mumbai International Airport today. The airport is built in a way to ease the load on the congested Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
It is to be noted that the Navi Mumbai airport will be India’s first major aviation hub which will connect several transport systems. However, the state-of-the-art airport will start its commercial operations in December. The unique airport has been built under a public-private partnership with Adani Airport Holdings and CIDCO (City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd).
The Navi Mumbai International Airport has various unique features including multiple runways and AI-equipped passenger management systems. It has eco-friendly designs with other features such as noise reduction technology, rainwater harvesting, and green landscapes.
1 The Navi Mumbai International Airport is built in 1,160-hectare with handle as many as 20 million passengers annually through one runway. It will have the full capacity of 155 million passengers annually through the means of four terminals and two runways.
2. The Airport will be India’s first fully digital airport. It will have consist of facilities for pre-booking vehicle parking slots, immigration services and more. It will have the facilities of fully automated, AI-enabled terminal.
3. The airport has been built at the cost of Rs 19,650 crore and is expected to generate more than two lakh jobs across various sectors such as IT, real estate, aviation, logistics, and hospitality.
4. It is to be noted that the commercial operations of the airport will start from December, as per officials.
5. Notably, the prominent airlines, including IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express have shared their plans to commence operations.
6. According to Arun Bansal, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Adani Airports Holdings Ltd (AAHL), stated, “We are experimenting with AI-enabled baggage tracking in Ahmedabad, and here, you will be able to get a message on your phone telling you, for example, that your bag is number 20 on the carousel.”
